The beginning to the end

This blog probably won't last too long, and in all likelihood will get very, very little attention, but that's beyond the point. I'm starting this to chronicle my thesis writing process. Yes, this will likely be sort of mundane at times, but I'm hoping that I can bring some level levity to the experience while also chronicling the challenges that I face along the way.

A little background:

I am seventh year Ph.D. student at Harvard Medical School. Yes, you read that correctly SEVENTH year. It has been quite a long time. My Ph.D. research focuses on understanding the three-dimensional structure of bacterial chromosomes. What does that mean? Basically, I study how DNA, the genetic material of all organisms, is folded within cells. If that's not enough, hopefully, this blog will explain my research in much greater detail.

Today is Nov 26th, 2009. On Feb 19th, 2010 I will be defending my thesis in front of a committe consisting of two Harvard and one Boston University faculty member. Right now I have very little of my thesis written. Thus, I have a ton of work to do!!

Plan of action:

I hope to update this blog at least one or two times a week as I progress towards my defense. Hopefully, I'll be able to also provide a little bit of comic relief regarding the thesis writing process/my life. I may also post some links to bands that I'm currently listening to.
